FaceTime is a good idea for situations like this. 

There is also a free app and service named Be My Eyes I've used a couple of
times. You start the app and request help from the first available volunteer
helper. It connects you to an anonymous person who has volunteered to be a
helper on the Be My Eyes network. At that point it is like a face time call,
although I'm not sure if they see you or you can see them, I think not. It
seems to use the back facing camera. You can talk to them, tell them what
you need, and then point the back of the phone at what you need read or
analyzed. After you are done you can provide a comment about the experience.
I think if you have a bad experience, they can kick that person off the
helper network. 

Once my helper was in New Zealand. The other time it was someone in the US.

A little tip I've used for various things is to Facetime a sighted person on
my iPhone when I need a pair of eyes for something. For those with iPhones
or iPads, this is a great option for when you need sighted help but no one
is around or available to come over immediately.

Thanks Tom!  I was afraid that this was the answer.  I'll mark my 2nd
transmitter box with the number in braille, so that I have it three months
from now.  Tap Tap See didn't read the number, so I tried the camera.  I'm
just glad that there was someone sighted at our house at the time.

I don't have an answer for the camera and the serial number. I've never had
success with it. There is a work around. On the screen where it tells you to
point the camera at the barcode, there is a button to enter the serial
number manually, so if you know the serial number, you can type it in. When
my two transmitters arrive every six months, I have someone read me the
serial number off the box and I write them in my phone. I mark each
transmitter box distinctly so I know which serial number goes with which
box. Then I have the serial numbers to type in when I need to begin using a
new transmitter.
