[Diabetes-Talk] Darrio Smart Glucose Monitor?

Hi Jamie,

I called the company this afternoon and talked with a customer service rep. The current model while it would be able to connect with my IPhone 6, it will not be able at present to connect to the newer phones; I.E. 7 and above. Reason being the meter connects through a cable that gets plugged into the earphone jack on IPhone 6’s, and the 7’s no longer have an earphone jack. 

However, I was told that they are in the process of getting approval for the next model of the meter which will connect with the higher models of IPhones.

As for VoiceOver compatibility, she said it wasn’t compatible with VO, but I can’t help but wonder if I may have just talked with a rep that really did not know as so often is the case. 

I was told that they have a starter kit for $39 that would come with the meter and a cartridge containing 10 strips. Unfortunately for me Medicare will not cover the strips which for a 3 month supply of 200 strips would run about $150. So I need to do a bit more looking around to see what I might find for a Smart Meter. I am tempted to try the starter kit to see if it would work with VO, but I want to do more looking around to find out if there are any other options available and be covered by my insurance.

Eileen,

     I'm trying my reply again, since my first response is pending moderator approval for a nonmember response.  I did a "reply all" the first time, so I'm wondering if that made a difference, since I am a member of the mailing list.  

Anyway, I have not heard of this device, but it sounds promising.  However, if it isn't voice activated, then we won't be able to know our blood sugar until the results are synced with the phone.  And, putting the data cable in to the headphone jack will disable the Voice Over until the cable is disconnected.
