When I broke my ankle, I went to an ER not at my usual hospital. I needed
surgery, and they initially scheduled me at some facility with no endo on
staff. I was going to be completely put out, so, I was a little nervous
about not having diabetes specialist on hand, so, I contacted my doc, and
she was like, "No way, we will schedule it at our facility." And even then,
the surgical crew the day of were flummoxed as to what to do, especially
since I have a pump. It's laughable.

Wow! Our crew here gets really really stupid about diabetes when it comes to
surgery. Let's take your pump off, give you ridiculous instructions about
how much insulin to have in your system, and then yell at you because your
blood sugar level is high at the time of surgery. Duh!
And of course, all this nonsense about health care team, you think any of
them actually speak with my endocrinologist? Oh, that would take time enough
for a phone call. Not around here. So someone with no real diabetes
knowledge makes things up based on what their first teacher knew. <smirk.>

I've never been told that about either the pump or CGM. I even had major
surgery twice and left my pump attached. Of course, when it was abdominal
surgery, I had to have the infusion set in my leg.

Speaking of CGMs, has anyone ever been told there's a risk for infection
using a CGM? Or, pump for that matter too? A friend of mine was told she
cannot use a CGM because she's pregnant and there's a high risk for
infection since it sits beneath the skin. I mean, I guess any tie a foreign
body is inside your body, there's a chance, but, I've been using a pump for
15 years, and many of us are now using CGMs, and I've never been told this
nor has it been a concern, and I've had 2 babies. Just curious.
