You need to see a nutritionist at least once. Without knowing how high your
sugar levels are and what risk they think diabetes is to your baby, it is
hard to advise. There are some products that I have used that I know do not
elevate sugar levels. For example, glucerna, and a product called "boost"
are both products that a certified diabetic educator recommended to me. I
often use one of these two for a quick breakfast. Also, there is no reason
you can't have for example a fruit and chicken or a hamburger for breakfast.
I have done this when the task of making eggs was going to take up too much
time. I would ask a nutritionist about protein bars, as we are all different
in how they effect our sugar levels.

There is no trick to know how much blood. One thing I have found is once I
"milk" my finger to get the blood moving, and then prick my finger I place
the strip in one spot, rather than moving it around to catch the blood. I
have found this lessens the chance you will not have enough blood. Keep
hydrated, as if you are not hydrated it will be harder to get your blood.
But even for those of us who are experienced there will be days when it
takes more than one stick and more than one strip to test. Largely it is
about practice.

Subject: [Diabetes-Talk] new member with questions

Hi everyone,
My name is Dacia and my husband and I are expecting our first child at
the beginning of August. I was recently diagnosed with Gestational
Diabetes and am looking for any advice you can provide. Specifically,
is there a trick to knowing that you have enough blood to put on the
test strip to test your blood sugar? I am also looking for quick and
easy diabetic friendly recipes. Especially ones for desserts and
snacks so I can give them to those who are hosting my baby showers.
They want to make sure to have snacks that I can eat. Also, are their
any granola bars or fruit/protein bars that you find that are good
and don't raise your sugar and are low in carbs? What about the
protein shakes do you ever drink those and if so is there are a
particular part of the day that is best to drink them? What about
breakfast I find that to be hard not to go crazy with carbs what
things do you eat for breakfast? I know eggs are good, but I don't
always have time during the week to fix eggs due to my work schedule.
Sorry for all the questions,I'm just trying to ensure I do the best
for myself and my baby.

Dacia
