[Diabetes-Talk] G6 issue

Yes, we have and do manage our diabetes without CGMs. However, when helping someone else manage symptoms, you can't determine highs and lows for them, and if a child, they haven't always developed the sensitivity yet to determine for themselves, especially if still learning to communicate. Trust me, if my parents had CGMs when I was a kid, they would have loved it. Same with pumps. It's not that parents of diabetic kids don't know how to manage it, it's that technology helps tremendously, especially in the dead of the night when everyone is sleeping. It was a couple of times a week occurrence, at least, for me to have severe insulin reactions including in my sleep. And my parents had 3 other kids to care for, my brother also having health concerns. If they had the ability to know when I was dropping before I had a reaction, it would have saved all of us a lot of frustration and fear. I can't count the number of times I came out of a severe reaction, covered in sugar from my parents pouring juice down my throat, surrounded by them, one of them holding the glucogon syringe, realizing that I just had a reaction and couldn't stop it. I hated and still hate being out of control. I did and still do trend low, and I was a very active kid. My parents tested my blood frequently, but as CGM users know, you can test way more frequently with CGMs and know when you're dropping or rising, and able to correct before symptoms become extreme. I wouldn't pass shade on parents or anyone else assisting someone to manage their diabetes. It's a huge task, and ultimately, you can't be inside someone else's body and determine symptoms. A CGM would have been amazing for me and my parents.

I is because parents today don’t know how to control their children’s diabetes without the CGM system.

They are mad as their children can “Die in their sleep” without the notifications being pushed to the parents devices on the other side of the house.

I made it just fine for 25-26 years without the CGM systems. Granted they have helped a ton in the last few years but I still can control my diabetes without them.

You know because technology fails at the most inopportune times.
