Humalog and Novolog are the same thing; both are a fast-acting insulin. When
meal bolusing, you can use either of these. How much you bolus should depend
on a carb/insulin ratio. For me, at breakfast, I do 1 per 22, so for every
22 grams of carbs, I take 1 unit of insulin, which for me at breakfast is
usually less than a single unit. At lunch though, I do 1 per 8, so for every
8 grams of carbs, I take a unit of insulin. Lunch amounts usually are
between 2 to 4 units of insulin total. And at dinner, I do 1 per 12, so I
take a unit for every 12 grams of carbs. This usually is again between 2 and
4 or 5 units of insulin. I don't often have a bedtime snack, but if I do,
it's 1 per 15, which of course means for every 15 grams of carbs, I take a
unit. Bolus ratios depend on the person and the carbs and the time of day.
