[Diabetes-Talk] transitioning from Animas Ping

Veryln,

Unfortunately, there is currently no longer a pump on the market that's able
to work for totally blind people. I was using Animas and had the option to
switch to a Medtronic 530G, which does still have work-arounds for blind
diabetics, but after October of last year, Medtronic will no longer provide
a warranty for the 530G and it's phasing out this model. So of us who
switched in time only have 4 years before Medtronic will no longer support
the 530G.

Veronica, a member here, has been using the Omnipod successfully by using
the Seeing AI app to scan the remote you use to operate the pump, but my
understanding is it has been tedious. However, Omnipod is soon switching
it's DM to a smart device that likely will not be accessible at all, but
it's yet to be seen. She can speak with much more expertise on the Omnipod
though.

Sorry for this news; none of us pump users are happy and hope something will
change in the next 4 years, but I doubt it will.

Bridgit

Subject: [Diabetes-Talk] transitioning from Animas Ping

Hi Group,

I am brand new to this group as of today. Please forgive me if this topic
has already been addressed.

Can anyone tell me which insulin pump(s) are accessible for a totally blind
individual? I have been using pumps since 2000. I am guessing the majority
of you are familiar with the unfortunate situation with the Animas company
fading out their technical help at the end of September 2019 and have
stopped manufacturing any more pumps.
The diabetic educator and I attempted for two hours to figure out a way that
I could use the Medtronic 630 completely indecently. We have determined at
this time that this is not possible.

Any comments are greatly appreciated.

Blessings,

Verlyn
