[Diabetes-Talk] Dexcom Question

Yes, the Dexcom warns me when I am 75 or below or if my blood sugar is
anticipated to be 55 or lower within 20 minutes. I treat my low blood
sugars with glucose tablets, since they get right in to my system. Even
then, I can still be falling and be what the Dexcom calls "Low and
constant", which is 40 or below. By then, I am either sitting on the couch
or awake and in bed. After 4-5 glucose tablets, I know it will go up soon
and try to go back to sleep. These extreme lows happen to me at night more
than during the day. Without the Dexcom, I would sleep right through the
low. If you or anyone else is near her when the urgent low alarm goes off,
you will hear it. It also keeps getting louder and louder until you tap the
OK button in the Dexcom app. It the only alarm that cannot be silenced or
turned down in volume, and it is loud.

				Jamie

Robert, and today's tech has really gotten so much better than it used to
be. It's not so far behind with its numbers and with the G6, you really can
catch a dropping BG level and stop it before it turns into a scary low. Yes,
you can still go low but it's really quite remarkable. And you don't even
know you're wearing the device until it's time to change the sensor. Go for
it!

Thanks, we'll do that. You and Jamie are right about lows. So far, I've
always been there, and almost always able to bring her around, but I've had
to call 911 twice. That's twice in ten years, so not horrible, but what if
I'm on travel? The tech is there, so why not use it.

I have been very fortunate and have not had any sensitivity issues with the
Dexcom tape. I do think the Dexcom G6 tape is better than the G5 stuff. If
you call and chat with the support people, they will tell you what kinds of
things you can put on your skin first that will help itching without making
the tape not stick well.
I agree with Jamie in that she should really give it a try because lows are
nothing to mess with. Good luck and keep us posted.

Subject: [Diabetes-Talk] Dexcom Question

I've finally got my wife to look into the Dexcom CGM system. She cannot
always sense her lows especially if she's asleep. The one issue that she's
worried about is the adhesive. She has severe latex allergies, and her skin
is really sensitive otherwise. So, have any of you who use the Dexcom had
skin issues with the adhesive?

Thanks.
