[Diabetes-Talk] Resources

Most days, insulin hits me immediately, but every now-and-then, it seems
like it takes a ton of insulin to keep me in normal ranges. But yes, I am
lucky all-in-all.

You're lucky, Bridgit. For me, on some days I swear it's different depending
on where I placed the cannula or gave an injection, or what I thought about,
or the phase of the moon, or what top I wore, or something. <laughing!>

This is true of all foods, of course. But again, by fats, I don't mean from
foods like cheese or fastfood or junk food, but good fats. Bad fats really
do nothing at all good in the body. I'm not suggesting to never eat bad
foods, just not on a daily basis.

I'm a type 1 diabetic and have been for 33 years now, and I'm hyper
sensitive to insulin. I have very little insulin needs most days, because my
body responds quickly to insulin, and even after meals, I typically have a
small carb/insulin ratio. I eat, calculate carbs, bolus, and it usually acts
fast. And if I have to correct for a high BG, I usually am back to normal
ranges in 30 to 40 minutes.

Just know, with the slower absorption rate... you need to find what hits you
and when!
Probably more so for type 1, and 45 years... but pizza and the like, which
means Asian, Mexican.. even with knowing carbs, chips, rice etc... the fat
hits hours later.
And is a balancing act, for how much insulin and when.
Thank God for the CGM!
And Tresiba, I have no worries about dosing in the middle of the night if my
Dexcom tells me I am 220.

Yep, snacks high in protein are good, because protein stabilizes glucose
levels, and fat is what keeps us from feeling hungry. And by fat, I mean
good fat. So, nuts, avacados, olive oil and coconut oil, olives, etc.

Good to eat nuts as snacks between meals since unless they've been brandy
soaked or rolled in sugar you have no adverse blood sugar impact and sweet
craving gets turned off.
