[Diabetes-Talk] cost

Again, it's very unlikely that we can answer any of your cost questions
here. It depends on how many sensors you buy and sometimes Dexcom puts
together different combo kits for different providers. When I had regular
insurance, I could get three months worth of stuff at once, but with
Medicare, only one month at a time.
And the cartridge question has been answered. Dar, the free covers are just
overlays, which are pieces of tape that go on top of the Dexcom tape to help
it stay in place.
If you have absolutely no knowledge
Of how the Dexcom works, I think it would be valuable for you to spend some
time on the Dexcom web site. Perhaps you could snag someone who can hang out
and watch some of their videos with you. If your healthcare staff can't
describe anything to you, then you need to ask them if they know how to
follow your results and help you actually benefit from wearing it.
Gary, the G6 is just like the G5 in that the app tells you the date of
sensor insertion and transmitter activation. You then get notifications,
starting at 24 hours before your sensor expires, then again at 6, 2, 30
minutes and actual expiration. You can count on the fact that the sensors
last ten days, to the minute. So I put mine in a week ago at 7:00 pm,
therefore I already know that I'll be changing it by 7:00 on Monday the
11th. Pretty simple.
But I would strongly recommend that anyone who starts on this journey really
understand just what that journey is. You need to be clear on what it does
and doesn't do. You need a plan for how to respond to anything that doesn't
make sense or to those times when technology just loses its little mind.
Nothing is perfect. But it's really wonderful when you know what to expect
from it.
If you have any kind of insurance, your doctor sends in the request to
Dexcom along with the paperwork. If Dexcom verifies your coverage, they
either just place the order for your supplies initially, or explain the
process to you. For instance, for my OmniPod supplies, Medicare won't let me
buy them directly from Insulet. But the people at Insulet told me where I
needed to get them and gave me the phone number.
Of course, when changing insurance, you'll want to be asking about Dexcom
coverage, but these companies have experts on their staffs. Please use them.

When I was first switched to Medicare, the G6 was not covered and I paid out
of pocket. I just bought my stuff from Dexcom and hoped I wouldn't be doing
it forever.
