Thanks. I really don't know much about SSI because when I became blind at
22, I qualified for SSDI because of how much I had worked up to that point.
Few people believed me during my center training that I was on SSDI because
of how young I was, thinking I was confusing the two. But I had been working
since I was 15, and had been managing a store since I was 19 at the time I
became blind and had to initially stop working to attend a center. But the
day I applied for social security, I was told I qualified for SSDI and
that's what I started receiving once I was approved. Anyway, , I still am
not an expert on any of this and appreciate the education, grin.

Correct. SSI stands for Supplemental Security Income and only those with
limited income or resources are eligible for it. Those eligible for SSI are
also eligible for Medicaid and Food stamps. I don't know how much one
receives in SSI, since I haven't been eligible for it since I started
working in 1990. Eligibility guidelines and more information are found on
www.ssa.gov or just Google supplemental security income.

I believe depending on other income you can qualify for both. As a disabled
adult child, you receive SSDi, whereas sSI if your income is low enough you
can qualify for yrself. I'm on both 'medicare and Medicaid, because my
income through sSDI is low enough to qualify for Medicaid. Which covers
things like copays that Medicare doesn't cover.
Hope this helps.
