[Diabetes-Talk] newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic

I'm in such a minority here. I've been type 1 for 35 years, testing 6 to 8
times a day most my life. During both my pregnancies, I tested about 15
times a day. But I haven't had problems with calluses. However, I moisturize
my hands several times a day. Every time I wash my hands, I moisturize.
After pricking my fingers, at least before Dexcom, I lotioned afterwards.
So, perhaps this has helped. I'm a life-long moisturizer, ha-ha! I
moisturize my entire body at least once a day, usually after a shower. I
carry hand lotion in my purse all the time. I also use a foot cream for my
feet every night. All I can do is tell you what has worked for me. Also,
rotate what finger you poke and where you poke it each time.

Hi Louise,
The kits that do the poking have two different kinds of tips. The one with
the narrow hole is for fingers and the one with the wider hole from what
I've been told is for the underside fatty part of your forearm.
See if the one that diagnosed you can show you how to do the poking from the
under side of your forearm. Lots more real estate there. If you read
braille, use of the forearms won't endanger your reading ability.
When I have finger pokes done my index fingers are off limits for that
reason.
