Melanie, no there is no accessible pump in Europe. About 15 to 20 years ago, Europe had some accessible blood glucose meters that were not approved here. But right now there is no difference in insulin pumps.

Put the effort into bringing this information out to the public. I have had the opportunity to speak out regarding the need for diabetics to be aware of their diabetes. We can't have good control without the access to running our diabetes. I have gone to diabetic support groups in my area. I have gone to conferences regarding heart and spoken up there. I have also had the opportunity to speak for several Health organizations and doctor groups over in India.

My doctor, his nurse and their Medtronic rep went to bat over getting a pump I could use and it got pushed a little higher up within the Medtronic organization so far as I know. I was told back then that they were working on a pump that I would be able to use and I’d “be the first on their list” to notify when it was available. Well here we are a year and a half later and not a word, peep or squeak from them. I’m not holding my breath!

Within a couple of days I received a phone call from Medtronic asking me some questions about my diabetes and wanting to confirm my contact information. I was told that Medtronic is aware of the difficulty that a blind diabetic has and the need that we would like to continue with our pump treatment and time is running out for some of us. I myself will have my pump 530G 5 years this November.
