Subject: [Diabetes-Talk] A call from Medtronics

I hear a lot of talk on this list about Insulin Pumps and not accessible to us blind folks.

I would like to know if any of you have taken the time to contact Medtronic ???

Well I did and I included the concerns that folks have here on this list.

I got a notice that they received my email. Within a couple of days I received a phone call from Medtronic asking me some questions about my diabetes and wanting to confirm my contact information. I was told that Medtronic is aware of the difficulty that a blind diabetic has and the need that we would like to continue with our pump treatment and time is running out for some of us. I myself will have my pump 530G 5 years this November.

The contact person said the information gathered will go to the folks working on upgrades. I told her that Dexcom stepped up to the plate to provide the information we need via an iPhone apt. She told me that our issue will be worked on and possibly the next upgrade will be addressing our needs.

May I say this might be a good time to reach out to Medtronic and express opinion and needs for an accessible pump.

Joyce Kane
