Hi Terri
Congratulations on doing so well and I’m glad that you and your boyfriend recovered. I’m thinking a couple of low carb snacks since you cannot do a piece of fruit or nuts could be may be a meat stick and a little piece of cheese. Those are both high protein and very few carbs. If you can’t get the meat sticks maybe you could do a little piece of turkey and some cheese or another thing you could maybe do is have a pickle. You can do the dill pickles pickles but do not do the sweet pickles. I know that there are other high proteins snacks but I’m not really sure because of what you can and cannot have with your teeth, so maybe Google high proteins snacks for diabetes. There’s got to be lists up there and then there’s also if you’re interested a type two diabetes group for women on Facebook who have awesome snack ideas.

Suggestion for the fresh pair and fresh apple is to peel, sprinkle with a little water cinnamon and sugar substitute if desired then Cover and microwave until soft or the consistency that you desire. This will be easier to eat and taste like a wonderful pie without the crust. If the apple or pear is large you may need to keep it to half of the fruit for a 15 g carbohydrate snack. Light yogurt and whole-grain crackers also make great snacks just check the labels for carbs. Yogurt might be more like 18 g carbs but that is close enough to 15. A soft snack would be a piece of bread with some smooth natural unsweetened peanut butter. Again just check your labels for carbs to adjust your serving size.

>> Hello everyone,
>>
>>
>> I just wanted to give a quick update on my progress. I saw my diabetes specialest about a week ago. I was supposed to see her before then. But I had to wait, because both my boyfriend and I ended up with Covid. That was very rough! We are both much better now. Although, my taste and smell still aren't right.
>>

>> Anyway, my visit went very well. She told me that I was making great progress. She also lowered my treceba from 80 units, to 72 units. She also lowered my meal-time insulin. So before breakfast it's 25. At lunch it's 20. And at dinner it's 15. She told me that if I keep having really low blood sugars, to lower my insulin by 5 units. She also raised my Ozempic to 1.5. I had to get a new prescription, because the pen is different.
>>
>> It's upset my stomach some. Which is to be expected. But I think in about another week or so, I will be tollerating it just fine.
>>
>>
>> I have also lost 7 pounds. How much of this is due to Covid, I don't know. But I am thankful, and happy about it either way. I've not been drinking any diet sodas. I mainly drink this Gold Peak diet tea I found, and water. I thought I would miss soda. But not really. Now that I have really decided to make these changes for myself, it's as though my mind set has changed. If that makes sense?
>>
>>
>> I still have a ways to go. Not eating out is difficult. Plus, I still like some junk food. But I know I can do this. I do still feel a bit overwhelmed. She feels that if I keep making good progress, and losing weight, that eventually I might be able to drop my meal time insulin. That is my hope, and my goal.
>>
>>
>> She wants me to try and not have more than 45 carbs per meal. Less, if possible. Then only 1, to 2 snacks a day. No more than 15 carbs. This is all great, and I am more than willing to try to do this.
>>
>> But wow! In some ways, I feel like now I am not eating enough. She told me that if I wanted, I could keep a food journal. So I decided to start doing this. I thought it was a good idea.
>>
>> How do I go about figuring out what sorts of snacks might have 15 carbs, or less? That doesn't even seem possible. It doesn't help that there are just things I can not eat, no matter how I try.
>>
>>
>> For instance, I thought fresh pears would be good, because they are high in fiber.
>>
>> However, without teeth this just isn't really an option. Even though I cut it up, it was just too hard for me to really enjoy. Apples unfortunately are the same way. And I seriously doubt I can eat nuts. Unless I ground them up.
>>
>>
>> Unfortunately my specialest is leaving at the end of the month. Her family is moving out of state. I was really disappointed to hear this. She is very easy to communicate with. And she tries to make sure anything she gives me is accessible. I really like her.
>>
>> She did recommend someone else. I have an appointment with her in May. I see my primary care doctor in March. So they felt I could wait to see her until May. Which I am fine with. I just hope I like working with her as much. We will see.
>>
>>
>> Well this is a bit longer than I planned. But I wanted to share this with you all. I hope you all are well. Thank you for all of the support over the last few months. It is very much appreciated.
