[Diabetes-Talk] Diabetes-Talk Digest, Vol 157, Issue 14dexcom

I use Seeing AI to read the sensor and transmitter codes and always scan with the sensor in the package. I like this method because I can just put the package on the table and then move my phone away from it. One thing I've learned over time is to choose a position for my phone and wait a bit. Very often the number eventually gets read without me bopping all around. I have never needed assistance reading the sensor code. Once in awhile I'll double-check the transmitter code because VoiceOver speech sometimes gets me. If it reads too quickly I'll sometimes hear something as 8 when it's really H, the sound right up against another character.
As for the app, I think if they'd stop it with that stupid warning that means nothing to me, it would be fine. I've never found a clear button. I have found okay but sometimes it just throws me in to my phone's status bar and there's nothing else on my screen till I reboot. Good grief! If it takes them so long to put up an app update, why can't they hold off on the warning until they can make it work properly? <laughing!>
Also, have any of you gone to the Dexcom compatibility page to see which iOS they claim to work with? It used to be really easy but now all I can find is devices, not iOS versions. Sheesh!
In the meantime, I'm staying at version 13.7 because I can't see any really good reason to upgrade.
Thanks a bunch.
Veronica

I also scan it when the sensor is still stuck onto the device. I remove the applicator from the box, but scan on the Dexcom app before removing the sticky tab. I hold the device so the tabs are facing up. I hold the device so the tabs are also towards the top, and I'm holding at the bottom. I hold my phone relatively flat and about 6 inches or so above the tabs and slightly towards the right. I find having a light on in the room helpful. This usually works, but every now and then, I ask my partially sighted hubby to help, and if he can't get it, like Jamie, I will ask my sighted son to just read the numbers. Then I manually in-put them.

Hi Hope! I use the Seeing AI app on my iPhone to read the sensor code. I need to be in good lighting to get it to read the code. Some times it reads it right away, and other times I have to keep moving the package all around the camera until it reads it. I leave the sensor in the packaging to read it, but I'm wondering if anyone has found it easier to get the code read with it out of the packaging. I've been afraid to try doing it that way. I know that the code is on one of the tabs that you remove to uncover the adhesive part of the sensor.

I've been a bit spoiled for the past 9 months, since my son is always home now! He just graduated from college and is job hunting now. His dream job is to be a computer programmer from his bedroom, which might not be hard to find these days! Anyway, I know where to find him if I can't get the darn camera to read the code.

				Jamie

Hi all, I hope you’ve had a good holiday. I have the decks calm and I am very happy with it. The only difficulty I have is reading the four digit code that Hass to be entered when you put a new sensor on. I have seen the messages that the lady talked about in this app and I just go out of decks calm and go back into it I haven’t had any difficulties using the decks calm with the new update. Thank you have a nice day

> I am still running iOS 13.7 because Dexcom told me a few weeks ago that people were having a lot of connectivity problems running it on 14. Are usually end up waiting till about February to update to the latest operating system each year just because of the Dexcom app. I am using the Dexcom G6 version 1.8 and have not noticed any difference in how it works. Dexcom did tell me that the warning That they are in the process of testing the app is going to continue to show up on a regular basis because they say they are always testing the system. I do find that sometimes when the warning comes up and I flip to the right to find the continue button that voiceover will not read it and even a sighted person cannot tap on that continue button until I turn voiceover off. I have tried closing the app several times and sometimes that makes it work properly. I have a tiny bit of vision And have noticed that sometimes when that warning is up there and I?ll put my finger on the screen at that point that it actually reads me my blood sugar instead of reading the warning that?s usually when I have the trouble not being able to clear it. I also have Dexcom follow app on my phone which shows the graph and your blood sugar but does not allow you to do anything else however, I do not have any trouble clearing the warning from that app.
> Did you try powering your phone completely off and then turning it back on again? I have found that this frequently helps apps to start responding properly again when nothing else seems to work.
