[Diabetes-Talk] new member and a question

Yep, that's also a consideration. Too bad. It's ridiculous that insurance
providers won't cover the medical devices we need all the time. Regardless,
the Libre is accessible and will give you BG readings. Hopefully added
features won't be too long in coming.

I tried getting the Dexcom G6, but my insurance won't cover it. My doctor
and I looked in to it before considering the Libre, because he liked the
idea of the alarms and alerts.

>From what I understand, yes, the Libre is accessible if using your smart
device. However, as a T1, why not the Dexcom? It seems the better choice for
T1s. Has your doctor discussed Dexcom at all? It's also fully accessible
when using the app. Both will tell you BGs, but the Dexcom will alert if
you're going high or low, and how slow or fast you're going high or low.
With the Libre, you also have to hold the device near the sensor to get a
reading, whereas you can be in a 20 foot radius with Dexcom and get
readings; and in my experience, with the Dexcom G6, it's a longer range than
this. I know Libre is allegedly working on implementing features like this,
but the fact is that Libre currently doesn't offer these features whereas
Dexcom does. For T2s, I think Libre is probably fine, but for T1s, I would
recommend Dexcom over Libre. But again, both are accessible using the app on
a smart device, and you are able to set both up with the app independently.
