Bridgit, for the forseeable future, the Tandem app is clearly just for
reading data from the pump, like status information, which is useful, but in
no way can we operate the pump. My guess is that this is the case with
Medtronic because they deliberately discontinued the older versions of apps,
saying something about the FDA. But it might be worth a trip to their web
site or phone tree.

Agree with everything you say. I prefer a pump, but now that we have moved,
I don't have access to people like I did before for if and when I needed
sighted assistance. Since the warranty will be up soon on my 530G, I figured
I might as well transition off of it now. I was hesitant to go back to pens,
but so far, things are pretty even-keeled. I will say, the InPen is cool, a
fun novelty, but I don't really see it being better than a traditional pen.
In order for InPen to calculate doses and make recommendations, I have to
manually enter info. Which seems counterproductive. And I have InPen paired
with Dexcom, but all this gets me is an average BG showing up on InPen,
nothing more. Since I am already entering carbs and doses and exercise on
Dexcom, I quit entering this info on InPen, because I don't want to have to
enter the same info twice on 2 different platforms. Anyway, if Medtronic's
or Tandem's apps are accessible though and allow users to actually do
functions, I will switch back in a heartbeat.

Hi Bridget!  I am wondering the same thing, since my 530G is nearing the end
of its warranty.  I won't use Medtronic's CGM though, since my sighted
friend absolutely hates it.  He wants to go back to the Dexcom.  He said it
wants a blood sugar more often than not, and he finds the CGM inaccurate.
Anyway, I know we would not need to use their CGM, even though that is a
major selling point for the closed loop system.  My endo really likes the
Tandem which pairs with the Dexcom, so I am holding out hope for their
mobile app to be accessible to us.  I wonder how complicated the cartridge
change really is.  I've always been able to manage something that others
find challenging!

I have an email stating that Medtronic's MiniMed 740G is now FDA approved
for its app. Seems similar to Tandem's app. Does anyone know if the app is
accessible, and what does the app allow users to do? I recently went off my
Medtronic pump and switched to the InPen, but if a pump is a viable option
again, I would prefer to be back on a pump.
