Hi List,

I thought I'd contribute to the helpful info already provided by Patricia
Maddix regarding the Contour Diabetes app that is used with the Contour Next
One meter which connects to a smart phone via Bluetooth.

The main point is for those who like me prefer to create online accounts
using a computer with a keyboard and its browser. I did just that by going
to www.contournext.com. Be aware that unlike any other iPhone app I've ever
used where an account had been set up on the company's website, you cannot
log into your Contour app using the website created account. You must create
an account using the app and this account can use the same email address and
password as the one set up on the website since the two are separate and
located on different servers apparently. I found this to be a most unusual
arrangement but I must credit Contour for answering my support questions
both over the phone at 800-348-8100 and via email at
support at contournext.com.

The account set up process on the app was not the most accessible I've
experienced. First of all, I was asked for my date of birth as the first
item which seems more than a little odd to me. Secondly, the date of birth
input control was not a standard iPhone picker item as I've encountered in
other apps. Instead of selecting month, day, and year using a single finger
swipe up and down to cycle through the choices, you had to single finger
swipe right and left as is usually done to move among various screen
controls. The worst of it was that even after setting the correct date of
birth values, the app did not capture and hold the values even if the Done
button was executed. I was fortunate that someone sighted was present to
help with the birthdate input but even he had difficulty getting it to
stick. I had no problems entering my email address and password and password
confirmation using Voiceover nor with any other fields to create the
account. I will say that I got some sort of popup message about Voiceover
capability with the app and doing something to turn on enhanced speech in
the app settings but I was unable to locate that setting. I did find in the
App preferences a setting for Meal marker automatic prompt but was
discouraged that what Voiceover spoke did not indicate whether the switch
was on or off. I only want to track my blood glucose readings with the date
and time using the Contour meter and app so I turned this setting off. The
Meter time and date sync setting which came right after the Meal marker
setting but it too did not indicate whether it was on or off with Voiceover.
I intend to write Contour to let them know about these accessibility issues.

I got the rest of the screens set up just fine with Voiceover and now I'm
waiting to get my Contour Next One meter and strips to start using it. I'll
post back if I have anything else to contribute after doing so.
