On the topic of how things have change: I have been insulin dependent for 72 years. When the dr told my mom,” your daughter has diabetes “, she didn’t really know what he meant and thought it would be treated and go away. That night I went into a coma. My parents were told, “It she lives, 23 years is all you can expect.”  There was no at home blood testing, only urine...who knows how long it had been in your bladder?  Nothing was disposable; daddy had to sharpen my needles on a wet stone. Everything had to be boiled. My strict, ridged diet was weighed on scales.  My parents bought a house near the school so I could come home for lunch.  I am so thankful for the progress that has been made. A cure is needed!   Diana cook
