[Diabetes-Talk] News to Infuse - January 2021

Hello,
I have been an insulin dependent diabetic now for 41 years. When I was first diagnosed they still did not have at home blood glucose testing. I started with urine tests. For the first 10 or so years my sugar actually averaged at around 200. I am so thankful for the progress that’s been made. The CGMs are such a blessing. I am just looking forward to the day they have non-invasive blood glucose testing.

When the dr told my mom,” your daughter has diabetes “, she didn’t really know what he meant and thought it would be treated and go away. That night I went into a coma. My parents were told, “It she lives, 23 years is all you can expect.” There was no at home blood testing, only urine...who knows how long it had been in your bladder? Nothing was disposable; daddy had to sharpen my needles on a wet stone. Everything had to be boiled. My strict, ridged diet was weighed on scales. My parents bought a house near the school so I could come home for lunch. I am so thankful for the progress that has been made. A cure is needed! Diana cook
