Angela,
The smaller the number, the thicker the needle is. I don’t use pens so don’t know which would be the best but in general the smaller the needle the less pain. This numbering system also applies to lancets. I use lancets with a smaller number as it is difficult for me to get blood and I need to make a larger hole.
