Hi Angela,
The best way to lower your A1C is to eat less carbs and do more walking, even walking inside your home for 10-20 minutes between each meal .  But, before you start you need to know your blood sugar level.  Are you testing several times a day?  Also, as Milton mentioned make an appointment with a Diabetes Educator; such as a Certified Diabetes Dietician Educator as soon as you can.  They can explain food and how each work inside your body.
