Angela,
As others have said meeting with a diabetes educator to discuss your current eating and exercise plan if you have not already done that is the first step. If even after following their guidelines with an appropriate food and exercise plan but sugars remain high then it’s very likely that your doctor needs to make a medication adjustment. It is not always the fault of the patient for needing to change lifestyle as medication is an important tool as well and only the doctor can advise on that. I am a retired registered dietitian and over the years I have met patients who end up practically starving themselves in an attempt to bring down blood sugars when really what they needed was more medication. It’s all a balancing act.
