[Diabetes-Talk] Question on the elderly visually impaired using CGM

That would be the only reason that she would use it because she can't
operate one at all. She has an old iPhone and she just can't use it. But
also she is not diabetic, I am. I use an iPhone 13 quite successfully.
  She's almost 80 whereas I am only 72.

If it is possible for her to get a smart phone, and the new libre 3. She
would not have to scan it to get her readings.

Warmly,
Debbie

I will tell you, do not underestimate the ability of the elder to learn how
to use a cell phone. My MMom is 104 years old and in the last 6 months we
have help teach her on how to text message and email, vall & face timeher
family & friends. I use to be able ask my phone, "Dexcom G6 and with the
voice over option it would open the apt and tell me my blood sugar level.
There are a lot of things you can do on the phone by just speaking to it.

You just need to spend a little time working with the person and teach them
how.

My first thought is for this person to get the Blind Shell 2 and use Be my
Eyes and the desktop monitor with the CGM. I'm not sure if Be My Eyes is
available on the Blind Shell, you may have to help her and check this out.
That would be the closest thing to self monitoring.

Subject: [Diabetes-Talk] Question on the elderly visually impaired using CGM

Good Morning,

I received an email about an elderly lady that cannot use a smart phone and
cannot stick her finger and get blood to test her levels. The answer for her
is to use a CGM, but there is the problem of using a smart phone of which
she do not do. Do anyone have a solution for this lady?

Thanks,

Walter Mitchell
