[Diabetes-Talk] Planning our Knowledge is Sweet Seminar

Ok, Gary. Good luck. A few years ago I took a class at my local Y. Although
it was a diabetes preventative class. I thought it was helpful and I know
that there are other resources that partner with the Y. Or should I say
provide programs to the Y.
Thanks

I will check the resource in Baltimore. One concern is that I want them to
know something about diabetes and the effect of exercise on slowing,
stopping, or even reversing certain aspects of the disease. What does
exercise do to the immune system, and can it in any way counteract what
diabetes does in slowing our healing? When it reduces blood sugar, for how
long does this last, and what amount of exercise is required to make a real
difference? Do all types of exercise, both aerobic and anaerobic, reduce
blood sugar? What other issues might someone wise in the way of exercise
address that I don't know enough to ask. The issue for me is whether anyone
from the YMCA will know any of these things as a result of their work there.
I'll check this out. Your suggestion puts you at the top of my list. Thanks.
One other question for the group: if we can find answers to these and other
questions we may generate, how important is it for someone with a title to
address them. Suppose we get our board member Mark F to thoroughly research
this topic. Is a presentation from him as acceptable as someone with college
courses or time in the career?

This is only a suggestion. For the importance of exercise. Is there a local
YMCA in the area? The trainer might be willing to come out. I do not know
when in that area. Unfortunately, I do not think the one I know in the
Warrensville, Ohio area will travel.
Good luck

Hi, folks. I have been asked to do two things that involve you good people
on the list. First, I want your suggestions for agenda items for our
Knowledge is Sweet Seminar May 16 and 17 at our Jernigan Institute. Please
tell us what you want to hear about enough to come to the seminar, and if
you have ideas about where we can get a presenter about that topic, this
would be good to know.
Second, I have been asked to get a presenter to talk about the importance of
exercise. It will be good if that someone has a title suggesting they know
about the topic from more than an anecdotal perspective; I'd like someone
with credentials and a title. Again, I will appreciate any suggestions and
if you have a relationship that will make you persuasive in getting them.
Thanks for considering this and helping me if you can.
Warmly,
Gary
