Hi Veronica,
When I first went on a pump/cgm I was so excited when I read about the
OmniPod. I could go swimming and not be concerned about snagging the tubing
on door handles, etc. It took quite a bit of time before my next
appointment with the CDCES to discuss my pump choice. I then checked into
my insurance coverage for the various options and the decision became so
much easier. I couldn't afford all the bells and whistles, and I was
concerned about cartridge, infusion set, and cgm failures as it wasn't yet
clear to me if that would be covered. I created a worse case scenario
budget before deciding to commit to the program. I had yet to learn about
adhesives, patches, and backup insulin in case of pump failure. Going on a
pump/cgm creates better control for most people fairly quickly. I'm so glad
I no longer need a bedtime snack to be able to make it through the night
without an insulin reaction. I can sleep peacefully knowing the cgm has a
24 hour watch over my BG. If you like to wear dresses you might have to add
a pocket for your pump. I hope this helps.
Take care,
Jane
