Subject: May Minutes, Des Moines Chapffer National Federation of the May Minutes, Des Moines Chapffer National Federation of the Blind of IowaThe pledges were recited.30 people were present.Secretary's Report Sharonda Goode moved to adopt the Secretary's Report. David Hammel seconded the motion. The Secretary's Report was approved. Treasurer's Report Reporting Period 3/292020 through 4/30/2020 Beginning Balance $1,736.22. Ending Balance $1,706.23. Terri Wilcox moved to adopt the Treasurer's Report. Mike Barber seconded the motion. The Treasurer's Report was approved. There will be a virtual Convention July 14-18. All membership information is in and updated. Emails are in and updated. Those not getting emails will get them soon. The NOPBC will have a virtual convention as well. Go to nopbc.org The first day of Convention involves a Rehabilitation Seminar. There will be presentations or breakouts on travel, Braille, technology, etc. There will still be an employment seminar at National convention. A number of affiliates are hosting seminars on zoom while we are quarantined. As of Nfb policy currently, there is a moratorium on in-person gatherings until May 31. We will follow state and local guidance or our national board, whichever is later. There is a possibility of meeting in person on June 13 at 2:jj. A virtual meeting will also take place. Presidential Release 494 was played. Scott Van Gorp gave a state of the state update. National Convention is July 14-18. Banquet is July 18. State Convention is October 30 through November 1 at the Holiday Inn and Suites in Urbandale. The fundraising committee will be getting back together. Email Chelsea with fundraising ideas at cpage at nfbi.org There is currently not a chapter newsletter. Hopefully this will return soon. All major local networks have descriptive video. Us-tube lost their description when equipment was updated. Channel 13 lost their description when equipment was updated but it is back.Blind parents have met on a National level, but there is currently not a state group or division of blind parents. The meeting was adjourned at 4:32.Respectfully Submitted, Terri Wilcox, Secretary, Des Moines Chapter National Federation of the Blind of IowaMay 19 Minutes, Des Moines Chapter Board The meeting was called to order at 7:02. Quorum President Mike Harvey Vice President Karly Prinds Treasurer Dave Hammel Secretary Terri Wilcox and Board Members: Sharonda Goode, Chelsea Page and Don Shepherd. Dave Hammel moved to suspend the reading of the Minutes. Sharonda Goode seconded the motion. The motion carried.Suggestions for helping the chapter and affiliate grow include growing membership and having chapter and state scholarships. A group for blind parents is suggested. A trip outside of Des Moines as a fund raiser is also suggested. It is suggested that we increase our visibility to the community and that we bring people from the community to our meetings. We can share tips and tricks with each other. It is also suggested that we do more social events and fund raising. Vote on the best tenderloins for a fee. Have a chili cookoff and have proceeds go for fundraising or scholarships. Major changes will not be implemented without Board knowledge and approval. It is suggested that we sell tickets both through a cash app and cash. Payments will go through Paypal from Joe and Sharonda's account to Dave Hammel's account and then to the Des Moines chapter account. People can get paid with the cash app as well. Joe and Sharonda would keep a spread sheet of what each person's numbers are. People will also get their numbers emailed to them. Winners will have a choice to get paid through cash or the cash app. If someone's number is drawn but they have not paid, then they cannot win. Sharonda Goode moved to use cash app and other third party software as agreed upon at the time by the board in addition to our usual custom in the next meeting, whether virtual or in person. Karly Prinds seconded the motion. The motion passed. The Des Moines Chapter email list is now complete and will be sent to Mr. Andrews. The June meeting will be virtual if Des Moines is not allowed to meet in larger groups than ten.It is necessary for us to reach out to the caterer for the Christmas party. Karly Prinds, Lisa Ortner, Amanda Lee and Chelsea Page are handling hospitality. It may be necessary to bring prepackaged things during chapter meetings during the next few in-person meetings. Fund Raising We need to plan fundraisers for the future since we do not know when we can get together again. Des Moines Chapter Cookbook Currently, there are 36 recipes sent in for the cookbook. The cookbook could be in Braille, on thumb drives and electronic files. It could be a Thanksgiving project. It would be great to have it available by state convention. Reach out to call people for recipes. Our next meeting will tentatively be in August. The meeting was adjhrned at 8:15. Respectfully Submitted, Terri Wilcox Secretary, Des Moines Chapter, National Federation of the Blind of Iowa Sent from Mail for Windows 10 _______________________________________________
