Dear reader,
you haven't heard from us in a very long time. We haven't stood still. Behind the scenes so much has been happening. We are extremely proud to announce the launch of our second generation webradio, Webbox2, with an enormous amount of new features on the international market. Although the outward appearance may be the same, the core is completely different and based on a new platform. In the articles below you can read more about the application for those with a visual impairment. All other applications such as for in-store music are presently "under construction". So bear with us a little longer, but watch this space for new developments and enhancements in that area.

ORIONWebbox receives prestigious European Award for best CPE solution

Nominated by UPC, daughter company of Liberty Global Inc, the ORIONWebbox was recently awarded the best European CPE solution. This prestigious award for technological innovations was awarded by SCTE (Society for Broadband Professionals) during a gala dinner in March 2012 in Woburn Abbey, England.

UPC (United Pan-European Communications) in the Netherlands recognized this unique Customer Premises Equipment application and within the scope of Corporate Social Responsibility it introduced a cheap Internet connection for VIPs. This has helped numerous people, who previously could not enjoy radio and TV in a regular way, to now listen to spoken TV subtitles and an ever growing number of Internet radio stations.

Announcing Webbox2 - ORIONWebbox has successor!

Five years after the introduction of the first on-line player able to access content on the Internet without a PC the second generation Webbox is now ready to be rolled out on the international market. The past 4 months Webbox2 has been in operation in the Netherlands. The housing is identical to the first version, but more contrasting colors on the front panel and buttons make it more user friendly. The rear panel now includes slots for a SD card and two USB-sticks.

The heart of the unit has undergone a revolutionary change. In the past five years we have listened seriously to what our customers had to say about improving certain features. We have taken these suggestions to heart and voila we now have Webbox2. It is worth your while to click here for more information on the new features.

Remote control with super functions!

One of the revolutionary innovative features of the Webbox2 is that it is possible to control the unit from a distance, just like a TV set. It is the first Daisy player that can also be operated with a remote control (see photo). An important feature of the Webbox2 is that it can be used as an on-line multi-media player specifically developed for the visually impaired (VIPs). As it is multi-media the Webbox2 is often connected to a stereo hifi system and placed elsewhere in a room, not necessarily next to the armchair. And this is where the new remote control comes in very handy. Not only can you switch between programs, but you are also able to easily switch between media such as Internet, SD-card, USB-stick or CD-drive and also switch between the items stored on the different media. Navigating (Daisy) content such as a talking book or magazine is so simple. What is more by using a wireless headphone or earphone allows one to walk around freely in the home. The contrasting colors of the remote control as well as the audible feedback when keys are pressed make it a welcome asset to the easy smooth operation webbox2.

Daisy On-line distribution service for FFVI

The Finnish Federation of the Visually Impaired (FFVI) requested Solutions Radio to design and implement a Daisy on-line distribution platform and to include the integration with their existing customer base and content server. This project was successfully completed at the beginning of February and is in full operation. The Daisy on-line services have been implemented on virtual servers namely the Daisy on-line server, the content server and the database of user and subscription data.
The FFVI has currently more than 7000 clients subscribing to digital talking newspapers/magazines. The variety of playback devices consists of Daisy players ( more than 14,000 in the field), computers with a special reader application and TTS as well as mobile phones and some mainstream portable players. Users can also access on-line content such as full editions of more than 30 daily newspapers and tens of magazines. For more background information you may contact Iiro Nummela at FFVI .
