I'd bet anything the headphones will work with the 4th generation Nanos.
The speech in the 4th generation Nano is very nice.  I don't know if your 
current player has EQ choices, but purchasing the Nano is worth that 
alone--in my opinion.  I like the way my Bose sound with the IPod.
Regarding the voice, whichever voice you have your Windows Speech set to, 
that is the one you'll hear on the IPod.
