[Electronics-talk] Digital Televisions

Hi Andy and list,

Thanks for this one! I wasn't trying for high end TVS but one which could
go back to square one and be easily set up in case of power failure. What
is the cost of televisions with these PCI cards? Can netbooks or laptops be
easily interfaced with these models provided they aren't priced through the
roof? Have any of these digital sets worked with the talking remote which
is out there sometimes and sometimes not?

Thanks again! I'm certain the talking remote wouldn't help much with
inaccessible TV menus.

Jim

It seems that all of the digital TV sets that I have seen these days
have on screen menus that do not speak. The most accessible solution
might be to use your computer. There are PCI TV tuner cards, and some
that plug into a USB port. They are controlled by software that runs on
your PC, so you can use your screen reader to make adjustments using the
software.

Hello!

Which televisions are simple to operate for blind persons? what has
been
your experience?

My wife and I are probably in the market for a digital TV and we want
one
which can interface with my stereo system. We also have direct TV. At
present, we have one of those converter boxes but it keeps going out on
us
when we really need it! I think it would be best to have the TV,
eliminate
the talking VCR, interface TV with stereo system along with Direct TV.
I'm
not necessarily looking for a large expensive set either.

Thanks so much!

Jim
