The Narrator cannot be used as a portable radio regardless of the power 
source because it lacks built-in antennas.  It does not have an AM ferrite 
bar antenna, nor a telescoping FM rod antenna like most portable radios. 
You have to plug in separate AM and FM antennas into jacks on the rear panel 
of the Narrator to get reception.  The supplied FM dipole is quite long and 
would be difficult or cumbersome to carry around and position outdoors.
