OK, here are two methods to join the viphone list without going through
Google Groups. They were both posted to the viphones list by Raul, one
of the moderators.

Here's the first suggestion just using email commands:

Hello all. You might want to save this for future reference. Since this
topic has come up recently I thought I'd give information on getting
help with this list when it comes to managing your subscription via
email instead of the web site.

This is mainly aimed at those who don't have Google accounts and don't
want to sign up with Google just to participate on the list. To get the
help commands and email addresses for list subscription management, send
an email to viphone+help at googlegroups.com and you will get an auto-reply
message. Note the Plus sign between viphone and help. The below is what
you will get back.

We received your message asking for help related to the group viphone.

To send a message to this group by email, address the email to:
viphone at googlegroups.com
To subscribe to this group by email, address the email to:
viphone+subscribe at googlegroups.com
To unsubscribe from this group by email, address the email to:
viphone+unsubscribe at googlegroups.com
To contact the group owner by email, address the email to:
viphone+owner at googlegroups.com

and here's a second method using some web page trickery:

Hi all. I'm just passing this along that if you know of others who are
not on this list and who might want to join, they can do so even if they
don't have a Google account. To join this list, use the following link,
but replace the user at me.com email address at the end with the real email
address wanting to join.

I just wanted to pass this along in case some new users are not
comfortable with using the Google Groups web site.

http://groups.google.com/group/viphone/boxsubscribe?email=user@me.com

Feel free to pass this along to anyone you know who might be interested
in joining.
