[Electronics-talk] Accessible HD/FM Radio Announced

Hi funny you should mention Montana. The car we had the HD radio in was the
1 that we went to Montana in. There was 1 spot where we had 2 radio
choices, regardless of what band or format we chose. 1 was a country music
station and the other 1 was a native American station which played
traditional music. We thought it was fun to be in such an area in contrast
to here in Michigan where the bands are fairly crowded.
We traded that car in and our present car does not have an HD radio, so I
cannot comment on availability, now. Back then, maybe half to a third of
stations had HD and I, personally, really enjoyed the better sound.
I loved Glacier, yellowstone and Three Forks. We visited the Capitol, also.
Great trip.
warm Regards,
Fred

Hi Fred and all,
I think it has to do with how people think about AM/FM radio in general! I
have an hd radio myself and it works fine when it works. Our NPR station is
the only HD station where I am and it only has one stream. Our AM HD
stations were sold . Since I am in rural Montana, stations need to cover
some distance. In order for the stream to kick in, strong signals are
required. The stream won't work with weak to marginal signals. Someone 30
to 60 miles out won't detect the stream despite gain antennas. It hasn't
gone anywhere here and there isn't many portable options. Online and
satellite radio are ahead since they have more choices than HD radio
couldn't hope to deliver! It hasn't been embraced here!
