Depending on how you want to use the MP3 player, you might want to consider one of the Olympus digital recorders.  I believe that there are 4 models that have voice prompts built in.  I believe that 2 of the models are the
DS420 and DS620.  These devices allow you to record messages or anything else you want to record in any of 5 folders, and then have a folder for MP3 files and a folder for podcasts.  You connect the device to your PC via a USB cable and just copy the desired file to the folder on the digital recorder.  You can also copy your recorded voice messages to your computer for storage or access on the computer.  You can expand the device's memory by using a SD card.  If my memory serves me correctly, both models have the ability to add bookmarks during both recording and playback.  This is great for when you are recording a lecture and you want to mark a point in the session that you need to reference at a later date.  I do not think you can use the bookmarks with the MP3 files.  Both of these devices are easy to use with actual buttons on the face of the device.

If you can come across the Olympus DS 30, 40 or 50, you will find similar features.  These devices are no longer made, but you might come across one.
