For starters, don't believe the idiot you spoke to at AT&T.  ATT still very 
much sells corded land line phones.  If all you want is a basic, corded 
land-line phone, you can't go wrong with the ATT Trimline 210, which is 
available from Amazon.com for only $12.60.  I have three of these phones 
scattered around my apartment, and for ease of use, value  and excellent 
sound quality, they can't be beat. Best of all, you don't have to be a 
rocket scientist to figure out how to use it like you do with the IPhone.
