Typically this means that you set the heat to come on at 6:00 am when you wake, turn off at 8:00 am when you leave for the day, turn on at 4:00 pm when you return, and off when you go to bed at 10:00 pm. These times and temperatures are set by you to fit your schedule and desires. This thermostat also has what is called 5/2 which means you can have different settings for the week days versus weekend days. Also you can just turn off the program and use it as a manual thermostat if you like.
