[Electronics-talk] Typing faster on the Iphone?

Good morning Chris and List,

I am aware that many sighted smartphone users use thumbs for texting and
emailing. I tried this once and it felt somewhat awkward and cumbersome
unless I hold the phone sideways with the power button on the left or the
right end. This being noted, how do you position the phone to free both
thumbs for touchscreen keyboard input and maintain good control of the
device?

With IOS 6, you don't need to split or double tap on the shift or delete
keys when touch typing. You still need to split/double tap the return/search
key though. You can activate the shift or delete keys just like any other
key, by lifting your finger.

Split tapping is another option. With split tapping, you find the key you
want to enter with one finger, and then while keeping that finger on the
screen, you tap the screen somewhere else with another finger. I prefer this
when typing with one hand, while I prefer touch typing when using both hands
or thumbs actually.
