[Electronics-talk] card readers

We have a laundry card vending machine in the laundry room of my apartment
complex, but it is totally inaccessible without sighted help. And the
washers and dryers have touchpad controls which are also inaccessible. I
have mentioned this to the building manager, but he just laughs.
Apparently, there is no law that requires landlords to install accessible
laundry card vending machines or accessible washers and dryers. And even if
the ADA did require such accomodations, who would enforce them? Besides, it
is my understanding that nobody even manufactures accessible laundry card
vending machines. Here in New York City, the local transit agency has
gotten away with installing inaccessible Metrocard vending machines for
years with total impunity. It is cheaper for them to pay nominal fines for
noncompliance with the ADA than to install accessible vending machines. I
guess you just can't win.
