[Electronics-talk] Comparing GPS's

Not all GPS apps must support giving "turn by turn" directions. There
are many GPS apps (including around me, imove, and blindsquare) that
are primarily about orientation and less about mobility.

I rarely bother with turn by turn apps. If I need driving directions
(for a cab, driver, etc.) then I'll use the apple maps app. but, if
I'm in a neighborhood and want to locate a nearby restaurant, I'll use
blindsquare's track function. The tracking function is basically a
"getting warmer" model, which tells you the direction and distance to
your destination. I use to use the "where to?" app for this as well.

The purpose of the Seeing Eye app is to provide turn by turn
directions, along with other GPS functions like lookaround, in a
manner that is supposed to be easier for voiceover users to operate
than mainstream turn by turn apps.

There's another app called "my way lite", which allows you to design a
route, by walking or driving it and telling the app when you've
reached a waypoint. This may be useful for camping and backpacking,
though I've never used it for such.

Hope this helps,

Jim
