I think you hit it on the head.  This is an Commercial economy, if the 
product is priced above what the target Marget can afford, it just will 
not sell.

Shoes and ultrasonic canes lack one major feature - being a signal to 
the sighter world that the user is visually impaired.  This can be 
positive or negative depening on where you are traveling.

remember less than a dozen years ago, we did not need or know about 
iPods, or iPhones.

the market place will decide what is a great workable idea.
