HI All,
  When I first got my iPod I started trying out bar code scanners and as many here may recall I also asked about any recommendations. At the time, I found nothing that worked with any degree of reliability and plenty of wasted time when scanning  without vision and was really frustrated. They happened to talk about this on ACB Main Menu about an hour or so ago  and demoed a couple of scanners, one of which I decided to try out and had absolutely beautiful success without any vision and believe it or not,  unlike most of these apps, this required no light as I tried it both in lighted rooms and  without light!

  The app is called Red Laser and is a free app. When you scan, if doing so without vision, I strongly and I emphasize strongly recommend turning the app's light on. To do this, Swipe once to the right after you  double tap the scan button and you will hear light off. Double tap and it will turn the light on. I was able to extremely easily and quickly scan thin bottles, wide bottles, cans, dressing bottles, liquid hand soap containers, detergent bottles, shampoo bottles, boxes, materials that were packaged in bags, and even the container that my dog's toothpaste comes in. I simply held the device about 3-4 inches away from the product relatively well centered unless I could feel the bar code label and within about 1.5-2 seconds I  would get the info. It works really well with VO. 

  If anyone would like, I would be happy to do a demo of my own. I love the scanner and it is the only one that I have found works really nicely, quickly, and non-frustratingly:) without any usable vision (and as mentioned without the need to worry about the light in the room:))!
