[Electronics-talk] [EXTERNAL] Stand Alone GPS Units

Besides our driver being able to use it if they don't have a smartphone with
GPS, It is for my husband to be able to use independently since he does not
have a smart phone. Actually he doesn't even have a cell phone (and he is
proud of that fact, lol.)
But I have just discovered that an iPod Touch would be able to do GPS in
combination with a GPS receiver. I think I am about to upgrade to a new
iPhone, so I can give him my current iPhone 4s to use for that purpose, and
it should work offline just fine using Navigon.
Thanks for all the input.
Sarah

I guess I wonder why you are so dead set on that kind of solution.

It depends... if there was confirmation of what you said, and the
ability to change it if it got it wrong, then yes. That's why I'm
wondering how much they speak/how usable they are...
And some allow you to save favorite destinations with a name, so in that
case we could have someone manually input the destinations we use and
then I'm assuming you could just say the name of that saved
destination.. and I think I read that it lets you save 100 or so, so
that could cover everywhere we go, certainly everywhere we would go in a
taxi.
