The stand alone units have gotten so cheap now that you could buy one
for the driver to use, and another accessible device for your husband. I
believe a stand alone unit can be had for little more than $100. I
remember when the Garmin Nuvi sold for $800. Those units have gotten so
cheap now that every cab driver has one.

That's not it. It would need to be able to be used by a sighted driver
as well, i.e. seeing a map on the screen...

unit that a person doesn't need sight to set up?
