Vince:

If you really do have an icon on the desktop for JAWS 16, it should launch
the app. Once you have speech and are pointing to this icon, do the
following:

Type Alt+ENTER to get into the Properties sheet. Tab a few times till you
hear something like "shortcut key" and if there isn't one, you'll hear the
word "NONE". Then just type the letter J. Keep tabbing to the OK button and
click it. You may be admonished that you don't have sufficient privileges to
change this. Just go to the Continue button and click it. That should do the
trick and your shortcut hotkey should work.

To run JAWS without using the shortcut, type Alt+R for RUN. Then type "JAWS"
or "JAWS16". Then hit ENTER. JAWS should come up.

If this doesn't work, you may want to have a sighted person look at the
screen or use the iPhone Talking Goggles or KNFB Reader apps to try to
figure out what's on your screen that might be preventing things from
working as you expect.

If you *don't* have a J icon on your desktop, once you have JAWS going, make
sure you are not pointing to any desktop items by unselecting any icon
you're on by hitting Control+Space. Now hit your Applications Key, you'll ve
presented with a dialog, one of whose choices is NEW. Hit ENTER on this.
You'll get another menu which will have a choice to create a shortcut. Hit
ENTER on that and you'll be in a dialog to create a shortcut for JAWS.
You'll need to know the path to the JAWS executable as this is one of the
things the dialog asks you for.

Good luck!

I'm running JAWS16 Pro, on my Win7 PC. I unloaded JAWS16 Pro, and since I
wasn't able to create the shortcut keys of alt+ctrl+J, I went to the desktop
and clicked on the JAWS icon. But this didn't work!
I tried the following tricks with no success:
Typed JAWS16 in the edit field at the Start Menu
Rebooted
Inserted the JAWS16 disc in the DVDRW drive
Tried launching MS Narrator--which didn't work at all.
So if anyone knows how to launch JAWS16 without the shortcut keys, please
let me know.
Earlier versions used that desktop icon clicking technique. I hope it still
works.
You can reach me at my e-mail. Thanks.
