[Electronics-talk] Do you use an antivirus with your iPhone?

Hi listers,

The purpose of this mail is not to criticize Apple or anyone: just to tell
you what happened to me, so that it doesn't happen to you.

I have had an iPhone for almost two years and no problems until very
recently. I got used to Voiceover and I particularly like the feature that
it speaks in many languages. Also, recently I started using Wifi and
enjoying internet. I used Ios 6 until last month with no problems. My
problems started when I updated to Ios 8. One or two days after I updated,
my email address seemed to have been caught by some malicious site, I
suppose: hundreds of stupid emails started coming in just one day. I wasn't
using the email function on my iPhone and even I didn't know my own address.
So I turned that feature off until I decide to change the email address.
However, I started noticing some other problems, such as instability: if I
started listening to some radio on my iPhone, it would stop after some tens
of minutes.

So, when Ios 8.02 appeared, I soon updated again and, yesterday, when I just
started listening to one of the radios I usually listened on the iPhone,
sound went off. I thought that it was just an internet problem again, but
Voiceover started behaving strangely. It wouldn't talk when I open the menu,
etc. I tried to use Siri and Voiceover would talk only on the Siri screen.
I reset by pressing both buttons long, but no change. After some time,
Voiceover stopped talking at all. I tried to know what happened using
iTunes, but, when I connected my iPhone, it said that authorization was
required to access it and I pressed to continue, but then it said that I had
to answer from the iPhone.
Since VoiceOver doesn't talk anymore, I couldn't do it alone. My wife helped
me to press the Yes button on my iPhone.
I could hardly took a backup, but I don't know if it's ok until I put the
data back again.
My wife turned Voiceover again after resetting it from the menu; it went on,
but no voice. I tried to use Siri again and Siri talks, but if I say
"VoiceOver", for example, it says: "Calling 44136" and makes a phone call;
the number changes every time, no matter what I say.
I think that this is a virus, because it started doing some strange things;
it's not only that some functions disappeared or stopped working.
I'm about to do a recovery now, but what do you think?

The latest version seems to be much better and it's said to avoid some of
the vulnerabilities of previous versions, but just the opposite with respect
to vulnerabilities in my case. And it's said that it's not necessary to use
an antivirus on an iPhone, which has never been very convincing to me since
the time I started using the iPhone.

Now, it's happening to me what I feared. By the way, I have never installed
a single program. My iPhone only has what IOS comes with it from the
beginning. I suspect that someone might have executed some arbitrary code
when I accessed the internet.

Have you had those experiences, like Siri calls a different number each time
you say VoiceOver or VoiceOver stops talking even though there's no problem
with the settings apparently?
Has iTunes asked to allow it to access the data from your iPhone by clicking
a Yes button?
If this happens with the latest IOS, we'd better do it while we can use
Voiceover. Once you accept that that computer accesses the data, it seems
that it won't ask so again for that computer, but you'll need to press the
Yes button when accessing it from a different computer for the first time.

I was enjoying my iPhone so much!
VoiceOver, when using IOS8, also talks in Hebrew.
but now I can't even use it as a phone and many people might try to contact
me on that number.
My wife said she would stay with IOS6.

This is so strange!
I called apple and told them about the problem. I mentioned that it might
have a virus and I was afraid that it could spread to my pc, but no comment.

What do you think I should do?
Have you done a recovery without seeing the screen. Can it be done with JAWS
and the latest version of iTunes without accessibility problems?

Thanks,
George
