In England TV is generally broadcast over the air, so you don't have that middle man separating you from your TV signal.

I feel that it’s a little dirty to charge such high prices for accessible equipment.  

It’s their way of getting more money out of us.  We have to pay such horrid prices for adaptive equipment.  

If we lived in the UK. We would have a talking cable box no matter what tear of cable there is.  They are way ahead of the good old US of A.
