I got my issue resolved. The DVR box needed to have
voiceover turned on (something the tech failed to do when he installed it
and which customer service seemed to know nothing about) and in order to
control the dvr remotely, I needed to install yet another app, one which the
web site did not tell me about.
My husband set up voiceover, and he was able to get a customer support
turkey to clue us in on the tv app (not the TV go app, mind you) which is
needed to control the dvr from anywhere.
I'll say this, Comcast's service is great, their humans leave much to be
desired.

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for or not, but I use a TiVo
with apps on either my iPhone or my Nexis 7. TiVo is the DVR option with my
cable company, but I know it works with other TV options.
