[Electronics-talk] Did the virtual cane ever come out?

I think the virtual cane was equipped with GPs technology and blu-tooth.
I also heard about an app for smartphones that would tell you when traffic
signals are red or green. But I haven't heard anymore about it. A couple
of years ago a demonstration of the app was done in, I think it was, Cave
Creek, Ariz. Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend the demonstration. But
a friend that did attend said it was cool.
Last I read, it sounded as if hesitation was setting in, because cities
would have to adapt the traffic lighting system.
So I don't think this will be coming soon. However, I sure hope I'm wrong
about that. But if the blind individuals in other cities are like the ones
here in Phoenix, dependent on paratransportation--as it is called everywhere
except Phoenix which calls it Dial-a-Ride, then the project will stall and
never get going.
