[Electronics-talk] My brailled ATM cards are here

Barb,
What I do for my credit cards as well as i.d. cards or gift cards is to
Braille a label on the labeling tape you can purchase from any of the blind
supply stores on line. I usually have a friend or family member help me with
this so I don't put the label over the magnetic strip or some important
information.

Will the KNFBReader read that number? I don't have it so am curious. I, too,
am fortunate to have friends and family that I can trust so I don't think
too much about that. When I get my new card, I take a 4 by 6 index card,
write down the name of credit card, account number, expiration date, the
all-important security code and, last, the customer service number. I've
just gotten so used to doing this that I don't even think twice about it.
The one thing I don't like about not having a braille card is that if I'm
shopping by myself, I have to ask someone else to get the card I want out of
my wallet. I usually try to remember to do that before I leave the house and
put it where I can locate it without difficulty but, sometimes I do forget.

Well, I think the blind have bigger issues then getting the security
code printed in braille on people's credit cards. I'm not saying this
isn't an important issue, but I don't think it should be the number one
issue being addressed by the blindness advocacy organizations. I'm also
not as defeatist as Gerald and just assume that the advocacy groups
haven't and aren't considering what to do about this issue. You may not
like the answer, but a solution like the KNFB Reader does tell me that
the advocacy groups are at least attempting something to address this
and other related issues. Let's be honest, even if the advocacy groups
were publicly addressing this issue, Gerald would be telling us how the
credit card companies don't care, won't do anything anyway and all of
the laws to force them to address this issue are too weak. Gerald always
has a reason why trying to change something and making something better
for someone else is a waste of time. I always find it ironic how much
negativity and selfishness is found on this NFB sponsored list.
